How to Replace Peg Perego John Deere Tractor Wheels, Gearboxes, and Motors

If your Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force, Ground Loader, Dual Force, or Power Pull vehicle needs a new motor, this handy guide is for you. We'll go through how to remove and replace motor/gearbox units from Peg Perego so you can confidently correct your drive issue and get back to the fun without delay.

First, let's go through some of the symptoms of a faulty motor/gearbox just to ensure before you begin that the motor really is the issue. In general, a failed motor on a John Deere Peg Perego tractor will result in one of two outcomes. If your primary motor has failed, this will result in zero movement in first gear and reverse gear, and a reduced speed when driving in second gear. If your tractor only works in second gear, then motor failure is the most common cause. If the issue lies with the vehicle's secondary motor, the result will be a vehicle that works fine in first gear and reverse, but you will gain no extra speed in second gear. If your vehicle fits either of these descriptions, then you need a new motor/gearbox unit. We have Ground Force and Ground Loader motors available for purchase at this link, while Dual Force and Power Pull motors are available, however you'll need to send us a photo of your vehicle so we can identify the variant and supply the correct part. So you have now diagnosed your issue, and you have your brand new motor in hand - now what? The good news is that fitting a new Peg Perego motor to your Ground Force, Ground Loader, Dual Force or Power Pull is very straightforward, and should only take you about 15 mins. We recommend following the steps shown in the video below, but if you're having any difficulty, you can contact us for help and one of our technicians will be happy to advise.

As you can see, the process is straightforward, and just requires the removal of one wheel to access the motor/gearbox itself, and then a couple of screws to access the connection between the motor and the vehicle. Once your motor is safely installed, and the wheels are back in position, test the vehicle in both gears to ensure that reverse, first, and secind gears are all functioning properly.

If you have replaced your motor but you stull find that the vehicle is sluggish or not moving, the most likely cause is a degraded battery. Batteries can become degraded if they are repeatedly left empty or partially empty overnight. If you think your battery may have degraded due to undercharging, the first step is to try a 24 hour uninterrupted charge, as in some cases this can reinvigorate an old cell. If this doesn't work, you'll need a new battery. For Ground Force and Ground Loader, the battery is at this link, while for Dual Force it is at this link. for Power Pull vehicles, please get in touch and we'll be able to identify which battery version is required for you.

Once your vehicle is back up and running. the best way to ensure your motor/gearboxes stay in perfect condition is to ensure that wheels and arches are wiped dry if the vehicle has been driven in the wet, as water sitting on the wheels and arches can in some cases drip into the gearbox housing, causing water damage. Also, ensure that the vehicle is never pushed, and is only moved under power, as if the motors are rotated without being powered, this can result in damage to the motor coils and in some cases in physical damage to the gearbox.
